Here's the tea:
Chamomile isn’t just an ordinary plant; it is a plant that has many names and many relatives! However, for now we are going to dive into skincare’s favorite chamomile plant, Chamomilla Recutita which is also known as Matricaria Chamomilla. Matricaria Chamomilla is a chamomile plant that grows annually and can be found flourishing in places like Brazil, France, Germany, Hungary, Russia, and western Xinjiang of China.
With such strong capabilities this little daisy has a variety of uses both in skincare and medicinal purposes. With its number one use in what we commonly know today, tea! Chamomile tea is made by brewing some hot water with the dried flowers of the Matricaria Chamomilla plant. Chamomile tea alone is primarily used to induce sleep, prevent colds, and soothe the nervous system. In skincare, we have been able to extract the oils from the chamomilla recutita plant which assists with anti-inflammatory, hydration, and sun protection.

Products such as moisturizers, toners, serums, soaps, and massage oils are commonly known to have the extract of the chamomilla recutita plant due to its powerful compounds. Responsible for its anti-inflammatory effects are the chemical compounds found in flavonoids. Flavonoids such as quercetin, apigenin, luteolin, and rutin are what provide antioxidant and antibacterial effects in products with chamomilla recutita extract.
